On a side note: Cascadia should split from the US on ideological grounds. We could be allies with the far northeast (Upstate NY, VT, NH, Maine, NB, NS, and maybe NF) and maybe Minnesota and the people’s republics of Colorado and California.

Why? They could raise taxes to just the federal rate on all their citizens (this would actually be a tax cut from their perspective) and they’d have a completely balanced budget. CA is a massive net loser state when it comes to federal taxes. Far more flows out than comes back.
